2012 is off to a great start!

Angelica Run Eventing has had an amazing start to 2012! I like to think that we are making an “Angelica” RUN at 2012. Connor began his season with a win at Poplar on his new mount, Bruno (Piece of Hope). Tika used Poplar as a warm-up for the Pine Tops, and looked in top form.

The debuts continued with Full Gallop on Feb. 1. My horse, Trance, came out at Prelim. It was his first show since the AECs in September, so we really wanted to get an idea of where he was with his performance and fitness. Our dressage boot camp with Sallie paid off, as he was second after dressage in the open division. Skyeler kept me on track and riding well in showjumping, and Trance jumped around clean. He could not possibly have been happier to be back in the ring, or more rideable, and jumped himself right into the lead. The ground was rather hard for cross-country, and our main goal with Trance is preserving him for when it matters, so I decided to take it very slow out on course. He was thrilled to head out the box, and foot perfect on course, so our day could not have gone better. Despite taking it so slow on xc and getting time, we finished 3rd. Not a bad start!

The rest of the crew began their season at Sporting Days this past Saturday. It was Natalie’s first time out on Erin Murphy’s old ride, “Say Wat.” They made quite the start together by getting a 23 in dressage and jumping double clear to bring home blue in Novice Rider. Connor continued his winning streak (we are at 3 now..,.) by leading the Open Prelim from start to finish and jumping another double clear. Skyeler brought out “Accolade” (Cody) in the Open Training, and despite just wanting to knock the rust off – she got 2nd! Cody is, by wide consensus, one of the most special horses any of us have seen in a long time. It is great to see Skye taking him slow, and him being so competitive early in his career. Last but not least, Erin Murphy rode in the Open Novice. Her planned mount had a foot bruise, so she had to make a last minute swap and bring my dressage horse, Finnegan’s Wake. When we say last minute, we mean it! She rode him for the first time in dressage warm up! Despite him only jumping a few times since the summer (when he transitioned from potential eventer to dressage horse), Erin piloted him beautifully around show jumping and cross country, and rode her catch-ride to 7th place!

So far, 2012 could not be going better. One thing I am personally working on is embracing the horse I have today, and leaving all my baggage behind in 2011. Trance has not notoriously been strong in dressage, but after a year and a half with Angelica Run, he is truly a different horse. He is actually NICE in dressage. So where fear used to creep in during dressage warm up and mix itself with massive waves of insecurity, now there is only focus on performing with the horse I have today (and complaining loudly about how hot I am in my show coat…sorry Sallie!). It is so hard sometimes to ride forward mentally, and not get trapped with tension over all the movements that used to spell doom. I think, thus far at least, that I am doing better, holding my head higher, and riding the Trance of 2012. Clearly, as I don’t think in our lives we have ever been in the ribbons after dressage, and this past outing he was in 2nd, only .5 off the lead. For every horse and rider at Angelica Run, we are leaving the baggage behind and enjoying the strength our team has come out with. There are new challenges, which keep it exciting enough to keep us motivated and focused.

Next up we have Pine Top this weekend with Trance and Tika in Intermediate, then Paradise, then Pine Top Advanced. We will keep training and hoping for happy and sound horses, and that everyone else is having a great start to the year!

Poplar Place... and a tour of the South

Hi everyone! I know I was a bit delayed with the second blog, but we have been very busy here at Angelica getting ready for the first show of the year – Poplar Place! I have a personal soft spot for Poplar, since I am from Area III and have had more than one move up there. Consequently, when Skye entered Tika in the I/P, and Connor entered Bruno in the P/T, I was thrilled to be able to cheer! I hold my role as team optimist and cheerleader very seriously. So, I got up at 3am on Saturday with Sallie and we made the drive to Poplar. The drive went really well going there, we even stopped and ate at good ole’ Waffle House. When we got to Poplar, it was POURING. We hung out with Skye and Connor until they gave the all clear, and we headed out to warm up. Both Tika and Bruno (Piece of Hope) looked great. Tika was rocking out a rubber snaffle, which – for anyone who knows Tika – is an accomplishment in itself.

Both of their tests were lovely! Connor is just starting his partnership with Bruno, but Sallie has been kicking our a**es over here in Aiken, and it paid off for Connor – he got a 20 and started in the lead! Skye has been working hard on keeping Tika in that calm, quiet rhythm, and it really showed in the ring. Tika has had almost 6 months off, so seeing her knock out some beautiful mediums and float through her lateral work left everyone smiling. It was a great day for Angelica Run! The rain returned, so show jumping was moved to the following day. Consequently, Sallie and I had no reason to stick around; my cheering was done, so we headed off.

Neither Sallie nor myself got much sleep that night, and we had been up since 3am. We were both feeling a bit under the weather, and just wanted to get home and get some sleep. We were having a pretty decent drive, except that every gas station we pulled into was out of gas. Literally. We were getting REALLY low when we found a large Shell station, so we hopped off the interstate and went in (any readers familiar with the Fort Benning exit?!). The lady behind the counter immediately barked, “Oh honey – I ain’t got anything but what you see in this store!” “So, you have no fuel?” “No baby, nothing.” I thought Sallie might tackle this woman in our exhausted frustration, so I shuffled her out, and we went down the road to a station that did have gas. We filled up, hopped back on the interstate, and got settled into our trip. It was the darndest thing, though, because her in-dash GPS told us to get off on this random highway exit. I checked the google maps on my phone to confirm that exit wouldn’t take us anywhere, so Sallie told the GPS it was a stupid wench, and turned it off. Mistake one.

We drove for a couple hours. The sun was shining, it reached 78 degrees and we worried if the horses in Aiken were too hot, and I did a little rendition of “Here Comes the Sun,” complete with clapping. In the midst of my joy and delirium, Sallie suddenly grabbed my arm, turned white, and said, “Kristin... where are we?” “Well I am not sure exactly, let me check my phone.” And so I pulled up my google maps on my iPhone, which had our beautiful path in blue, and I waited for that blinking blue light to show up that indicates our exact location. “Hmmmm, we must not have good satellite, one second….I am waiting for the blinking blue thing to show up.” So I waited, and waited, and then suddenly the panic Sallie was in hit me. WHERE WERE WE? So I silently zoomed out, nothing. I zoomed out more, nothing. I zoomed out more, and saw the perimeter of our blinking dot. OH GOD. I zoomed out more. Here is what I saw:

I didn’t know how to tell Sallie, so I didn’t. I just had a nervous breakdown. In reality, I sat there rocking back and forth, repeating, “I just can’t do this…” while Sallie yelled, “WHERE ARE WE?!?!” In my mind, I simply unbuckled my seat belt, took a deep breath, opened the door, and hurled myself into ongoing traffic at 80 miles an hour. When I finally snapped out of it and told Sallie that we were somehow in Montgomery, Alabama, we turned around. I think we were both so delirious and tired it was just too much. We turned back on the dashboard GPS. As soon as we were going the right direction, we saw the dark clouds and the temperature dropped, and we took a deep breath and prepared for the drive. An hour later, we saw a STUPID “Welcome to Georgia!” sign. I wanted to DIE. When we got back to the Poplar exit, this storm hit that was so awful we could barely see, but Sallie and I just wanted to get home! Mistake two. We thought we heard some kind of bells, but also knew we were going insane. We passed a cop hiding under an overpass, and said, “What a wuss!!! Can’t even drive in the rain!” I then commented that it was like, totally, almost tornado weather, and wouldn’t that be something?!?!?! TOO BAD IT WAS:

OMG WE WERE SO STUPID. Somehow we managed to not, ya know, die, so we chugged along to Atlanta. When we got there, we decided to eat at Waffle House, again. We walked in looking like two chicks that had been on a meth binge for three days, and ordered our food. I ordered the steak and eggs. “Hash browns or grits?” “Hashbrowns.” “How would you like your steak?” “Medium.” “How would you like your eggs?” “I GET EGGS!!!!!??” She just stared at me. Somehow when I ordered the steak and eggs, I forgot there were… eggs. Our waitress did not find this amusing. We did get our food, it was amazing. We tore it down, and then promptly went into food comas. Sallie was slumped over in her baseball cap, and I had to tap her to make sure she stayed conscious. The waitress and other patrons just stared. WE were actually the weirdos in Waffle House.

Among a million other awkward and comedic and tragic moments, we finally made it home. 747 miles later. THINK ABOUT THAT. It should have been a 450 mile day. We were so tired, and so gross, and all Sallie could say by the time we reached our exit in Aiken was, “KRISTIN, we just traveled over ten hours…………AND WITH NO SNACKS!” Ain’t that the truth.

Skye and Connor both did amazing clean show jumping rounds, and clean cross country. They had to go slow since the ground was half washed away. Bruno and Tika are officially in their 2012 season, and the rest of us will enter it shortly! As for Sunday, Sallie and I slept.

Holla at our troops abroad! We are honored to have you as readers! :)

Aching in Aiken

Helloooooo world!!!!! I am so excited to be taking over the Angelica Run blog. This is Kristin Carpenter reporting, and I have (terrifyingly) been given free rein. Remember that promise, Skye!!

Angelica had a 2011 full of extreme highs and extreme lows. On the low side, our farm flooded and we lost everything in September. It was actually in the middle of the American Eventing Championships. That was a huge blow to the program, but the team rallied together and rebuilt the farm in record time.

After a 6th place finish at the AECs in Intermediate, my horse, Trance, got Tildren in preparation for Fair Hill. He had a rare reaction to the drug that sent him into full renal failure, and he spent 18 days in ICU and lost over 200 pounds. We lost out hope of a Fall two star, but he is now back in work and stronger than ever. If Angelica is anything, it is a resilient team!

We had a lot of highs. We had multiple wins and top three placings at every level. We had four riders debut at the international level, and all with great success! We made the summer trip to Bromont and had a wonderful time. But most of all, we had a great year of memories. Part of eventing is dealing with the good moments and the bad. We all had those "perfect" runs, and we all also had those shows where we did dressage in a monsoon to get a 47, then pulled three rails in the mud pit, then finally finished on a high with a great XC run only to miss the finish flags like an idiot. Or wait, maybe that was just me. REGARDLESS, Angelica is there for each other when we need to cry, and certainly when we need to laugh.

We just made the trek to our home at Pony Up South in Aiken. We have a private farm with a jump and dressage ring, track, and a ton of turnout. Life is FABULOUS! Angelica has a lot of hope for this season, and we are working hard on making those dreams come true.

Aiken has great weather, lovely footing, close events, WAFFLE HOUSE, and tons of eventers. It also has some…well….peculiarities. For instance, when we did a run to the trash today, there was a very old man in front of us dumping his truck. I thought the oddest part was his camouflage cell phone holder mixed with his frat shirt, until we noticed the missing thumb….but no. The oddest part was that his bags and bags of "trash" appeared to be full of squirrels. Dead squirrels. Now, we are deducing this based off the fluffily squirrel tail sticking out of a bag. The motives for this circumstance are endless.

Aiken also brings out some of the stupid in our horses. A horse that is to remain nameless was turned out with my two. Trance has a habit of going into the field every day and galloping a few laps. Literally, every day. We don't even condition him because he knocks out a good 12 minutes of canter a day, then takes a nap in the middle of the field. Well, this poor new pasture partner thought he would like to try and keep up with Tranceypants. Not only is Trance extremely fast, but he is very agile. Trance and "Nameless" were thus on lap one, when Trance turned right. Poor Nameless Horse tried so hard to make the turn, but instead flipped legs up into the air and went THUD onto the ground, then slid a solid twelve feet! He looked like a giant upside down tortoise. We were worried he might be….well….dead…when he suddenly jumped up and scurried off. The kicker was that he LITERALLY fell out of his blanket! He jumped up and ran off, but the blanket was in a heap on the ground, leg straps and all! Reminded me of those Youtube videos of people getting hit by something and literally knocked out their shoes. No worries, Nameless is doing just fine, but he has given up hope of keeping up with Trance in the AM conditioning sessions.

Stay tuned…..this is sure to be a great year!

Looking forward to 2011

Now that I am Skyeler's competition manager I am officially taking over the blog. I will be reporting to you every week letting you all know what is going on around the farm! First and foremost, I would like to welcome our new barn manager, Trudy Oxtoby. All of us at Angelica Run are very lucky to have her from across the pond (England) and we make a great team. Trudy always says "there is no I in team."

As you all know the winter has started off to be pretty brutal, between the 50 mph wind gusts, and the below freezing temperatures we have been forced to trailer the entire crew to an indoor every day. All of our hard work paid off yesterday at our first Angelica Run winter outing at the Frying pan Jumper show. We would like to send a big thank you to everyone who helped make competing 11 horses seem easy! A few of Skyeler's students (Anisa Gamble, Tess Bernhard, Lily Bernhard, and Mackenzie Crol) did very well at their first show. Skyeler's young horses Alabee, Arabella, and Accolade proved to be good little show jumpers when they finished with 7 clear rounds. Later in the day, Tika and Story had their show jumping skills tested in the massive 3' jumper division. Needless to say they both did a great job. After being at the show for 12 hours we were all ready to thaw out on our couches at home. A job well done, Angelica run! Hope everyone has a happy Holiday!

Until next time,

Connor

Paradise Horse Trials & Apple Tree combined test

Sorry I have not been in touch Virginia. We have been crazy busy with competitions and horse trying. Paradise started on Friday with Argie kicking off the Angelica crew. He scored a 24 winning the large open training division by 5 points. The kids rode later in the day with all of them competing at the training level. Everyone had good tests with Krisie, Lisa, and Erin just starting to understand the new level. Cross country and show jumping days were Saturday and Sunday and everyone finished happy and healthy. Both courses were quite big and technically difficult for the level and I was thrilled with the riding skill demonstrated by all the kids and horses. Argie ended on his dressage score in his last training and looks more then ready for his big preliminary debut at sporting days in two weeks. Connor ended third and Lisa fifth. Krisie and Erin ended on the top half with beautiful jumping rounds.

The most exciting news was baby Albee's (onyx) first horse show. He rocked the dressage scoring a 30.5 and had the second lowest score of the whole show. He jumped clean over his big "ameba" show jumping and got a big beautiful blue ribbon to bring home and show off to his brothers and sisters. We may have another Argie in the making!

We are thrilled to start the season with Connor being tied for first on the junior training usea leaderboard and Argie being second for the training horses. Good start to the season!

We will be home in 2 weeks and miss you all...

65 degrees and sunny!

"valentines losers"

Ok so yes... Mama icke actually called us Valentine losers. Unfortunatly she was right on point with that but not because of what you may think. Yes you may feel bad for us because while the rest of the world is drowning in roses and chocolates we very well could be sitting in an RV eating pizza hut and watching the wedding channel in nowhereville south Carolina. But no that is actually not why we are "valentines losers." We are losers because we actually were not only prepared for this hallmark holiday we were also spoiled by both of our significant others. Yet we managed to ruin it all....

First we went out and bought ourselves some wine to drink in our romantic RV box. Problem being if you are going to buy wine you may not want to leave it in the Bi-lo parking lot. Second my wonderful fiancé sent me a dozen beautiful roses in a gorgeous vase with a Teddy bear. Well the Teddy bear was for remi and the flowers we thought would be great on our patio to spread the cheer. Well apparently the Aiken winds did not agree with spreading valentine cheer. My beautiful vase was smashed to pieces on the fake lawn outside our RV. I go to throw it away in the trashcan and find Remi chewing the ear off of her Valentine bear from Clay. Last but not least Krisie's mysterious valentine sent her beautiful pandora charms for the pandora bracelet I had bought her awhile ago. Well pandora never told Krisie to avoid dropping show jumping rails on her wrist and breaking the clasp. Don't worry though the horrible life threatening coughs we both have made the holiday complete.

Despite our "loserisms" we have had a beautiful sunny warm Aiken day. The snow was mysteriously gone when we woke up. The horses must have loved us at least because they were fantastic today and continue to remind us of why it is worth living in an RV box for 5 weeks. Krisie and I anxiously await the arrival of our favorite stallmuckers (kids). Paradise horse trials kicks off on Friday and we will be representing with one prelim horse, three training horses, and a novice/training horse.

Time for cold showers and romantic comedys.

Blizzin in Aiken

Alright everyone laugh it up...you sent us your blizzard! Come on Aiken...you are letting us down! On the eve of Albie's first show there seems to be many inches of unexplained snow! The snow studs are being geared up with hopes we may still be able to compete Argie, Matti, and Albie sometime this weekend. We are now stuck in our box while Krisie attempts to spread her plague. It is very lonely without the kids as they were so much help and tons of fun. Those kids have very impressive timing as they drive up and down the east coast out running every snow flake.
Short and sweet for now. Be back in touch this weekend.
Cough cough sneeze sneeze says Krisie,
love the snow bunnies

Skyeler and Krisie take flight!

Greetings from Aiken!

So remember when we were bragging about the beautiful weather down south? Well karma got the best of us sending over 20mph winds and freezing cold temperatures. We might as well have been sleeping on a plane. We had the worst turbulence in the RV and it was close to taking flight. It very well could have blasted off if we had awnings on both sides for wings. In other words we might as well be living in Alaska with you all back home as the wind chill was below freezing on horse show day.

With the friged temperatures, dressage became a more challenging sport then it already is. The extra spice helped the usually lazy story secure a 33 in the open training. He and Connor jumped great ending in 5th place in a very competitive division. The wind picked up for Erin, and Moose was a little hyper to say the least. Erin did a nice job getting him through the test and then made up for it with a beautiful SJ and XC! The rest of us quite enjoyed not competing in the hurricane force winds. We watched from our first class seats in the RV plane.

The kids head back tomorrow and Krisie and I head back to reality. We are taking baby Argie for a jump school with Jan today. On Saturday Albie (onyx) will be doing his first dressage show!

Best of luck to everyone who really is experiencing Alaska back home.
Team Angelica

KiD bLoG

Hello Everyone!

This is Krisie, Erin, Connor, Jackie and Lisa here to give you an update on the Aiken adventures from our perspective. Skyeler and I haven't killed each other yet but .... time will tell. Connor and Erin are getting prepared for their first training level this season and we are all very excited to see how Moose and Story will feel about them afterwards.

Today was a relatively relaxed day as Matus, Argie and Autumn are still on vacation from this past weekend. We finished the barn work/ riding quickly this AM because there was a forecast for rain in the afternoon. Ironically, it barely rained at all so we spent some quality time playing with Remi and watching Krisie attempt to show off her gymnastics skills she once had. It was 65 degrees out and a beautiful day for outdoor activities in the trailer park.

For lunch we went the "The Pizza Joint" and waited a good 45 minutes for two medium pizzas.... that was fun...after we spent ten minutes searching for a parking spot and listening to Connor pretend he knew anything about parking and driving for that matter.

Last night Skyeler and I went to WALMART  to get some essentials. This of course included a new toy for Remi Roo Roo... a little fuzzy hedge hog. She and the hedge hog were inseparable all night but then Connor informed us that she peed on it during their morning walk. That was a bummer.

Life has been pretty great with the kids here. All week the kids have woken me up in the RV with a coffee and a hash brown. It's beginning to feel like the norm so I will be very sad when they leave.

Last but not least I want to report on our movie experience here in Aiken.  We all went with Allison Smith to see Dear John.  "Dear John...you suck...worst romantic drama of the year" Love Krisie

Aiken 2010

Hello everyone! Here it is the first blog of our Aiken adventure. The blogs will be via iPhone so they will be short and sweet. Our first week has been a great start for all the Angelica crew. Krisie and I have not killed each other living in the RV. Sallie and the kids made it down here in one piece. Jackie came down to provide an extra set of hands and has been our savior! We avoided 4ft of snow and have had beautiful sunny weather and wonderful footing. We started right out of the gates on Wednesday with Argie competing at full gallop. He won the Open Training by 10 points with a 26. We then took 5 horses to Sporting Days on Sunday. Argie did his first prelim dressage and SJ. He was such a star winning the dressage and only having one rail on a HUGE prelim SJ track. He ended 2nd in the Prelim- Training division. The kids all started the season with a novice. While they all had a very hard dressage judge they put in solid performances and jumped clean. Krisie and Lisa were 4th and 6th in there novice rider division. Connor and Erin were in the huge open novice division with lots of professionals but did great finishing 6th and 9th with picture perfect jumping rounds. We will keep you updated with lots of pictures as that will really give you an idea of Aiken life. We are moving on to Full Gallop this Wednesday. Stay warm in Virginia and a huge thanks to Julie, Jessie, Joanne, and my family keeping life going back home on the farm. Much love we miss you all!Skye

New Horses

I can't believe I am actually keeping up with this blog. We have exciting news on the farm as we have had two new horses join the Angelica Run team. Yesterday we went up to Penn-National with Sharon Miller who kindly took us to see many many off the track prospects. Wonderful Clayton, my fiancee, and my Papa (Grandfather) have decided to re-invest in these two new horses for me as they have realized that Argie will be hanging around for awhile. One will be a re-sale horse and the other we bought as an upper level prospect. Both horses are 4 years old. The re-sale horse is a 15.3h black gelding. He is the sweetest little horse and wants nothing but love from everyone in the barn. The chestnut is 16.2 and stunning to look at and a huge mover. I can only hope that the chestnut will turn out to be half the horse that my baby Argie has been for us. Stay tuned for names and updates on these two new youngsters.

End of Summer

The summer is now coming to an end and everyone at Angelica is now gearing up for an exciting fall season.  Tika and Argie competed at Fair Hill before I left for a week long (much needed) vacation.  Tika placed 6th in the Intermediate with an unfortunately over the top dressage test but a brilliant XC.  Little baby Argie pulled off another win in the Open Training ending on his dressage score of 27. Tika's plans for the fall include the upcoming Loudoun Horse Trials followed by Seneca Valley Horse Trials.  She will then compete in the CIC** at Plantation Field, Morven Park Horse Trials, and then the Fair Hill CCI** in October.  We had to delay our move up to advanced due to Tika's summer stifle surgery.  I hope to move her up in Aiken and aim for either the Bromont CCI*** or the Jersey CCI***.  Little baby Argie will hopefully round out his fall season with a Preliminary or two with hopes of a Spring CCI*.

The rest of the Angelica Run team is about to end the working student summer and head back to school.  Connor, Krisie, and Erin will be preparing for Loudoun Horse Trials and Seneca Horse Trials.  Petie had a great showing at Difficult Run Horse Trials and Lauren is vetting a hopeful horse this week. Ann Bellinger will be starting the season with her new horse Foggy at some schooling shows and aiming for the recognized circuit this fall.  Courtney Detore and our newest boarder Caroline Muller will be aiming for some unrecognized events in the near future and both girls and ponies will be looking forward to a possible beginner novice in the late fall. After a very successful showing at Novice Nationals, Erica will be moving Carrie back up to Training.  Our two off the farm Angelica Runners, Izzy and Lisa, will be joining us in all of the recognized horse trials this fall at the Novice level. Our very own Built Fjord Tuff dominated with Tammy at the Fjord show being the highest placed Fjord Gelding in the confirmation classes and winning the riding test.

To end this entry I would like to welcome Jackie Imholte to the Angelica Run Team.  She will be joining us in September with her horse Ty.  Finally, I would love to tell everyone that aside from planning my 2009-2010 competition season I will also now be planning a wedding.  Clayton and I got engaged early July and I am the luckiest girl in the world.

Summer 2009!

Hello Everyone!
It has officially been forever since we last touched base with everyone. I am now handing over the blog to Krisie Southern who will, I promise, be way more entertaining then I am. Krisie has now been my barn manager for the last year and has promised to stay on board for one more year before leaving us to go to school. I roped her in by promising her the ride on the very talented, very naughty Matus for her remaining year.

The barn has taken off since we returned from Aiken. I feel like I have been buying new horses for everyone in the barn and we now have some pretty exciting talent at Angelica Run Farm. Connor Husain retired his horse Ozzie and has bought Folk Lore "Story" from Allison Springer. The new pair has started out very strong and are a promising pair to watch in the future. Erica Jacquay just competed Carrie at USPC Nationals and finished 9th individually out of a huge Novice division. Ann Bellinger has retired Tangler after a strong Training finish at Rubicon and bought the young and talented Foggy a 6yr Grey TB mare. Erin Murphy placed 3rd at CDCTA in her first Training and is now looking for a young riders horse to keep moving up the levels with. Angelica Run sent a Dressage Team to the Junior Dressage Championships at Morven Park. Amy G, Krisie S, Izzy, and Katie Hansen all competed for the Eventing team and finished with the bronze medal. Amy is sadly leaving us with Ricky where they will be recieving a much higher education at Notre Dame. Krisie has been jumping Matus again for the first time since his EPM diagnosis. They will be competing BN/Novice this fall. Lauren is continueing the search for her next event horse and has been riding Tally for "PETER" while has been away at Drama camp. Both Kaitlyn and Courtney Detore have been riding with me this season and their horses have been going so well!

My horses have had some ups and downs this season. Tika when she has been healthy has been her normal superstar self. She had a very nasty cellulitis infection that spread to her stifle where she had to have surgery and 3 months off. She has started back with strong finishes at the two Maryland Horse Trials. Since we missed Bromont we will be aiming for the CCI** at Fairhill again and moving up to some advanced Horse Trials. Argento is the rising star in the barn winning 2 of his last four training and finishing 2nd in the other two. His dressage scores have been 24, 26, 27, and 28 in his last few dressage tests.

We took the whole barn to the Middleburg Combined Test this past weekend.
Tika- Intermediate- 1st
Ricky and Amy- Prelim- 4th
Argie- Training- 1st (0nly score of the whole show in the 20's)
Cocoa- Training- 2nd
River and Krisie- Open Novice- 1st (despite falling off across the finish line =)
Story and Connor- JR Novice- 1st ( low score junior of the whole show)
Matus and Krisie- Beginner Novice- 2nd
and our new boarder Caroline and her pony Sam won the Baby Novice!!!

All together out of 8 horses we had 5 wins, 2 seconds, and a 4th. Well DONE ANGELICA!

Alright so you now we have the new website and you will be reading a very entertaining blog from the one and only Krisie. We have been working with new sponsors (Andis, Kangen Water) and we have many new talented horses and riders. Stay tuned and I PROMISE we will keep blogging!

Rubicon and Jumper Show

I am so sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to everyone. Alot has happened since the last post and I could not be happier with the way our season ended for both my horses and my students.

Rubicon Horse Trials:
Amy, Petie, Erin, and Krisie all competed at the Rubicon Horse Trials in early Nov. Amy finished 6th in the Preliminary division. She had a BEAUTIFUL show jumping and ended with a very positive weekend. Erin and Cocoa were our stars of the weekend scoring a 29 in dressage and finishing second in the Novice division. Cocoa has had some health issues this year so to see her looking so positive and happy in all three phases was the highlight of the weekend. Erin could not have ridden her better and she learned alot about how she has to ride Cocoa in competition. Petie and Talli had a great weekend finishing in the top 10 in the Novice division and Krisie competed in her first recognized horse trials at the Novice level on Argie. Despite two rails Krisie rose to the occasion taking a very green horse around a challenging Novice course.

Frying Pan Jumper Show
Angelica Run dominated the Frying Pan Jumpers! With over 30 people in some of the classes our riders took champion in three our of the four divisions. Erin Murphy and Cocoa were champion in the 2'9 division besting 28 people. They did not have any faults in all four rounds and three jump offs. Petie and Talli took champion in the Childrens Jumpers and Amy and Ricky were champion in the high jumpers which did not end until 9:30 at night. We also had five other riders at the show who all placed in various divisions. Izzy and Owen had awesome rounds and placed in their two classes. Owen looked very excited to be back out and Izzy did a great job keeping him quiet. Lauren and Gracie were fourth in their class and made alot of progress in all of their rounds. Tess and Liza our newest riders took their new horses TC and Buddy. Tess was 5th and 6th in her classes with Buddy. Liza and TC were 6th in one of their classes and made it to the jump off having beautiful and fast rounds. Krisie and Argie were 5th in the class that they did making many improvements to young Argie's show jumping.

We had the barn bonfire and despite the rain had a fantastic time as usual. We have a new addition to the barn. Congrats to the Edgemond family and to (little) Amy for her new horse Joy. Joy came last week and is a Dutch Warmblood mare. I am so excited for little Amy and hope that they have a great partnership.

We now set our sights on Aiken. We will be leaving Jan. 17 and heading to Full Gallop farm. I will be taking my three horses, Ricky, Gracie, and Cocoa. Krisie and Sallie Spenard will stay down there with me for the six weeks. The girls will fly down on the weekends to compete and I will keep the horses going during the week. This would not be possible without the Murphy family's private plane and fantastic grandfather who will help us with all of our traveling!

I promise I will not take as long to update next time!

Waredaca Horse Trials

Hey guys!
So Waredaca Horse Trials officially wrapped up my competition season. My students still have Rubicon to look forward to, but as for myself the long year has come to an end.

Baby Argie was Reserve Champion of the Area 2 Novice Championships. He got a stellar 24.7 in dressage. His show jumping was much better then it has been in the past and he had just one baby mistake with a rail. His XC was perfect as usual and despite the rail he finished in 2nd on a 28.7! Amy and Ricky competed in the Preliminary division. They had a good dressage with many improvements! Mr. Ricky was FANTASTIC in the jumping phases even saving Amy at the first show jump. They had two rails and some time faults but finished 8th with a beautiful XC. I could not be happier with Amy and Ricky's progress in the XC they made it look easy and added to their confident clean rounds this year. Erica and Carrie had a great dressage in the Open Training finishing 5th after the dressage phase. I was most happy with their Show Jumping as I saw so much progress in the way Carrie was jumping the fences. Erica ended up starting her XC round in the most severe of the down pours. The wind and rain made the already tough XC not ride well for most of her division. Although the round wasnt perfect I was so proud that Erica got Carrie around and finished despite the horrible weather and having no studs. This pair makes such a great team and I am sure we will see many successes in their future.

Everything around the barn is going great! Krisie and I are enjoying a much more relaxed schedule (Starbucks runs) now that show season is simmering down. Tika is loving her well deserved vacation. We are gearing up for the Nov. 14th bonfire party and of course everyone heading to Rubicon Horse Trials. We are all cheering Gilbert on in the WMZQ cutest pet in costume constest. Make sure you all vote!

Stay tuned for all the upcoming posts and results.

2008 Competition Season

Now everyone at Angleica Run and all of our friends and supporters can stay up to date on everything that is happening with our riders and horses.

The 2008 year has been successful and exciting for everyone at Angelica Run. We have added many new clients and horses to our team. We are happy to have the Jacquay family and their horse Carrie, the Sherrill family and their horse Gracie, and the Detore family with Raider join us in the last couple months. I am so thrilled to pick up many new students including Mary, Laura, Tess, Liza, Courtney, Erica, Lauren, and Kathleen. We also have had two new additions to my immediate collection. Clayton Voss and Kevin O'Conner purchased Argento the 7 year old TB gelding who has been super successful with Skyeler, Krisie, and Erin in the 2008 event season. Of course the favorite addition to Angleica Run is Gilbert Goat. Gilbert has had quite the year himself with a HUGE fan club and celebrity appearances on the Hot 99.5 Kane show.

I am so happy to finally be wrapping up a very long but otherwise awesome season with my horses. Tika has had a stand out year at the Intermediate level. Her top placings this year include a 3rd in the OI division at River Glen Horse Trials in Tenn. She was 2nd in the Kentucky Classique CIC**, won the Middleburg Horse Trials with the low score intermeidate horse trophy, and finished with a top 20 placing at the Fair Hill CCI**. Tika made the USEA overall leaderboard in the top 10 mares where she currently stands 4th in the country! Matus had a struggle with Lymes disease over the summer but came back this fall to finish in the top 3 at every Preliminary he ran. His highlights include 2nd at the River Glen Horse Trials, 3rd at the Virginia Horse Trials, 2nd at the Kentucky Classique CIC*, and 3rd at the Marborough Horse Trials. Matus will be going up for sale this winter as I believe he will be better suited for a young rider or adult amateur who wants to move up the levels. Argento has had great placings at the Novice level with a 4th at Maryland Horse Trials, 6th at Surefire Horse Trials, and 2nd at the Marborough Horse Trials. As the season is wrapping I am currently sitting 31 on the top 50 riders list and am so thankful for my wonderful horses who helped to get me there!!

On the student front I am so excited to annouce that Amy Giordano has moved up to the Preliminary level with her horse Ricky. Amy has been my student for the past 5 years and I have watched her since her beginner novice days with her bratty little pony Mayflower. She has done an incredible job with her horse Ricky and they both have never looked better. She won both the Fair Hill OT division and the Training/Prelim division at Waredaca. She then moved up to Prelim with a 7th place finish at CDCTA and a 6th place at the challening Middleburg Horse Trials. Amy with be aiming for the Virginia CCI* and the NAYRC this summer. Erin and Cocoa have had beautiful outtings at the Novice level with a 3rd place finish at Difficult Run Horse Trials and a 4th place finish at Seneca Valley Horse Trials. Cocoa had some heath issues this summer but is returning to the competition ring. I took her to the Dominion Valley Horse Trials last week where she had winning scores in dressage and clean XC and SJ. Erin and Cocoa will be aiming to move up to Training in the spring. Izzy and her horse Owen are starting to figure eachother out and become a beautiful team. Izzy has had two 4th place finishes with him this season and has dominated the dressage phase with a 25 in her last dressage test at Dominion Valley Horse Trials. I look forward to this pairs success in the future and am so proud of the rider that Izzy has become this year. Petie and Tally have had a great start this fall. They finished 8th at the Difficult Run Novice and 2nd at the Dominion Valley Novice. Erica and Lauren are just joining us this season. Erica and Carrie have had great rounds at the Training level and I look forward to helping this talented pair in the upcoming seasons. One of my biggest excitments this year is Lauren and Gracie. Gracie came to me this summer and was almost unridable. We spent all summer working on this lovely mare and now she and Lauren are a beautiful team. They will be aiming for beginner novice in the spring. I know theses updates are long but I will stay on top of all the competition results as they are happening in the future. I am so proud of everyone of my students and cannot wait for the 2009 season to start.

As everyone knows I hired Krisie Southern to help me manage my horses and business for the upcoming year. Krisie has been so crucial in all of the success at Angelica Run. I could not do half the teaching or riding I do without her help. She has been a fantastic groom at all of my big outtings this year and has held the barn together when I have had to leave for travel. Along with the horse management success she has been competing Argento this season and has won EVERYTHING she has done with him. She was the low score winner at the Cedar Run Dressage Show and won the Beginner Novice division at Dominion Valley Horse Trials. She will be competing Argie at Rubicon in the Novice and I know she will do fantastic.

Finally I would like to mention all of the wonderful help I have gotten for my horses this season. I believe that I owe most of my success this year to the vets, farriers, and trainers that have looked after my horses and my students horses. Broadrun Vet Service and Brian Grady Farrier Service have done such a fantastic job keeping our horses healthy and happy. I have changed my training program around this year and began working with Jan Byyny and Sallie Spenard. The combination of their experience in jumping and dressage have made all the difference in my horses performances this year. Sallie has helped everyone of us at Angelica improve our dressage scores and we owe her a big thanks for the drive she does up from Fredricksburg every week.

I know this post is long but it is just the beginning of our new blog. I hope it helps everyone stay up to date and in touch with all the exciting happenings at Angelica Run Farm.

Get excited about the upcoming Bonfire Party and Washington International Night. We also have Waredaca Horse Trials and Rubicon Horse Trials left this season!
